We've just screened the climate change movie The Age of Stupid at the Palace Theatre in partnership with Redditch Borough Council. It was a sell-out night and the film was well accepted.
Spectators included Councillors, members of campaigning organisations and the public. After the film we collected people's reactions, served local apple juice and had some fun divulging 'guilty green secrets'.
An aftershow discussion included lively debate about next steps within our communities, be that as grassroots activists or decision makers. All eyes will focus on climate talks in Copenhagen in December. We are all urged to attend The Wave climate march in London on December 5th. A coach will be leaving from Redditch.
Heaps of support for our new campaign, 'Get Serious about CO2'.
The monthly meeting this week mainly discussed ways that we can grow the group and keep-up some of the success that we have achieved. Ideas for recruiting new faces included a Film Night and/or Workshop session at the Redditch Green Fair.
Recently the Letters Pages of both local papers have had a run on letters about tackling the causes of climate change. There seems to be some scepticism about man-made climate change. It's good to have the debate, although we feel we should be discussing the solutions not 'is it fact?'.
In particular there was a recent letter from Cllr Macmillan on what the Council is doing with its Climate Change Action Plan. Thermal mapping, grants, energy advice, etc.
It's Fairtrade Fortnight in late February, so some of us are active with the Redditch Trade Justice Network.
