Together we’re tackling climate change

Congratulations to everyone who supported The Big Ask campaign. Together we got a strong Climate Change Law in the UK. The first of its kind in the world, this is a huge step in the fight against climate change.

The Big Ask campaign encouraged local people to take action, by talking or writing to their MP about the causes of climate change.

The new law commits the Government to 80% cuts in the UK's emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050. It also has annual targets of at least 3% to keep us on track.

Parliament voted for the law in October 2008 after a 3½ year campaign by Friends of the Earth.

This success is proof that ‘people-power’ can make a real difference, locally and globally. Well done.

A campaign we helped win

Local campaigners met with Jacqui Smith MP a number of times to encourage her support for a tough new law to tackle the causes of climate change. Having collected hundreds of postcards from people in Redditch in support of The Big Ask, Jacqui praised the campaigners for raising the profile of climate change.
